Infusion time Calculator

Calculation
method

This calculator performs mathematical calculations on the entered data of 'volume of drug to infuse', 'recommended minimum saline' and 'duration' to recommend one or several DOSI-FUSER® models. The result suggests the 'total volume to be introduced', which is the sum of 'drug' plus 'saline'. The infusion should be done following the instructions for use.
The 'total volume' is calculated as the nominal volume x 0.9 x 'duration' / 'nominal duration'. The models in which the total volume is between the minimum volume and the maximum volume are shown. The option 'show more results' allows you to see other options with higher volume models or close infusion times.
The volume of 'drug' to be introduced takes into account the part of residual volume that is not infused by applying the formula: 'volume of drug to infuse' x 'total volume' / ('total volume' - 'residual volume').
The 'saline' volume is calculated as the 'total volume' - 'drug'.
If 80% of the nominal volume is filled, an additional advance of less than 5% may occur. If it is filled between 60% (minimum volume) and 80% of the nominal volume it can suffer the additional advance of 10%. See the IFU and the Clinician Guide to know more about the infusion time tolerance and possible deviations when the product works outside calibration conditions.

FAQs

Here you will find real customer questions. If you have a question that isn't answered here, please contact us.
1

What DOSI-FUSER® should I choose?

Use the Infusion Time Calculator entering the values of amount of drug to be infused and the desired infusion time. Each model is identified with a specific color and shape coded label. The complete range available is in the General Brochure, included is a table with infusion times and volumes

2

How can I get a different infusion time than the nominal one?

Use the Infusion Time Calculator entering the values of amount of drug to be infused and the desired infusion time.

3

How does the viscosity of the drug affect the infusion time?

DOSI-FUSER® has been calibrated with 0.9% saline solution. The infusion time will increase if the solution is more viscous (drug with solvent combination). For example, using dextrose 5% the infusion time will increase by 10%.

4

Is the drug stable in DOSI-FUSER®?

See the Drug Stability Table with DOSI-FUSER® included in the app.

5

Shall I prime the line of the DOSI-FUSER®?

Yes. We advise priming with at least 10ml of saline solution, keeping the clamp closed during introduction of the saline, unclamp to prime the tubing.

6

Is DOSI-FUSER® compatible with automatic filling systems?

DOSI-FUSER® is compatible with automatic volumetric filling systems that use syringe pumps and peristaltic pumps with calibration. It is advisable to avoid the maximum filling speed.

7

What happens if there is an air bubble inside the balloon of the DOSI-FUSER®?

The air inside the balloon is not dangerous because it will be eliminated by the filter on the infusion line. If there is a large amount of air, the volume of the balloon will be greater than normal and the indicator will mark values above the liquid volume.

8

Is DOSI-FUSER® compatible with Closed System Transfer Devices?

Yes, it is compatible.

9

What is the volume of the DOSI-FUSER® infusion line?

It varies slightly with the pump model, the average is 1.5ml. When priming the line with saline solution, the added drug will take some time to reach the patient, depending on the flow rate of the pump model.

10

How Shall I protect the drug that is photosensitive?

It must be considered if the drug should be protected from light in storage, preparation or infusion. The DOSI-FUSER® reservoir blocks ultraviolet light, use the opaque bag to also block visible light.
