What happens if there is an air bubble inside the DOSI-FUSER® balloon?
The air inside the balloon is not harmful because it will be eliminated by the filter of the infusion line.
If there is a large amount of air, the volume of the balloon will be greater than normal and the indicator will mark values above the liquid volume.
Does atmospheric pressure affect the infusion?
No, a change in atmospheric pressure does not affect. DOSI-FUSER® can be worn in an airplane, and in a hyperbaric chamber as long as the reservoir and the patient are inside the same chamber.
How should I place the capillary device?
Fix it to the skin with tape or transparent dressing. Preferable to fix with the side down where the tubing inserts as it lays more flat against the skin and it is more comfortable for the patient.
How Shall I protect the drug that is sensitive to light?
It must be considered if the drug should be protected from light in storage, preparation or infusion. For light sensitive drugs the DOSI-FUSER® reservoir blocks ultraviolet light. The opaque bag may be used to block visible light. The infusion tubing is not photoprotective, but the drug in the tubing is exposed to light for a minimal amount of time. Cover the tubing if required.
Where should the patient place the DOSI-FUSER® during sleep?
Instruct the patient to place the DOSI-FUSER® under the pillow or in another place that is at the same level. Instruct not to hang it from any bedpost or drip stand. Do not leave it on the floor.
What are the recommendations regarding temperature?
Avoid exposure to heating pads or other direct heat sources. Protect DOSI-FUSER® from freezing temperatures by keeping it under clothing. Protect it from direct heat. Keep the capillary device in contact with the skin at 32ºC (90ºF).
Is DOSI-FUSER® compatible with Closed System Transfer Devices?
Yes, it is compatible.
Is it normal for the infusion to end sooner or later than planned?
Normally it will end within ± 10% of the expected time. For instance, 5 hours variance for a 48 hours infusion. Occasionally within ± 15%.
Should I leave the clamp in the infusion line once the DOSI-FUSER® is connected to the patient?
The clamp must remain available for the patient. You can leave the clamp in the line without closing the tube, or you can remove it and fix it to the reservoir with a tape, to have it available if necessary.
How do I safely disconnect DOSI-FUSER®?
Follow Institution protocol. When disconnecting the DOSI-FUSER® from the catheter, it is advisable to cover the outlet connector or connect it to the reservoir inlet if a closed system transfer device is not already in place.
Can I have an MRI with DOSI-FUSER®?
The DOSI-FUSER® has two small metallic parts on the balloon fixation. It is recommended to keep the reservoir outside the 6 Gaus area to avoid interference with the image. If a metal accessory such as the Aligator Clip is attached to DOSI-FUSER®, this must also be kept out of the safety area.
